Astronomy on Tap in Kingston is continuing in person with a special Pints of Particles edition!!

This free event is in the Living Room of The Mansion (506 Princess St, Kingston) on June 25th at 6:30 pm.

Astronomy on Tap is a series of worldwide events where professional astronomers give informal talks at a local bar on topics of a broad interest in astronomy and astrophysics. This particular event is a special Dark Matter Day event, where local astro-buff, Mark Richardson will host three fantastic scientists, astroparticle physicists Guillaume Giroux and Matthew Stukel, and astrophysicist Brandon Shane. Giroux will focus on how using 2,000-year-old lead and Stukel will focus on how relying on one of the coolest places in the universe (at only 0.15K) can lead to some of the most sensitive dark matter detectors in the world. Shane will talk about how the northern lights caused an 8-hour power outage in Quebec in 1989, and how such an event could happen even today. There will be time for questions and discussion, and the speakers and other local scientists will mingle with the audience between and after the talks, providing lots of opportunities to chat with some keen astronomers. There will also be a trivia session with questions related to astronomy physics with prizes given out to the winners!

The event is free and 19+.
The Mansion serves alcohol and non-alcoholic drinks, and food will be available to be ordered.

Space is limited, so we encourage you to arrive on time! Pre-show starts at 6:30pm, with the main event starting at 7pm.
