Grant writing is a fundamental part of academic life. Supervisors apply for grants to support novel research, provide HQP training, conduct outreach events, as well as applications for awards and recognitions in their fields. But students and postdoctoral fellows often don’t write grants until much later in their scientific careers. Whether you’re writing your first application for the Banting Postdoctoral Fellowship, an MSc or PhD scholarship, or funding a student group or outreach event, grant writing is a skill that is learned through experience. Presenter: As a Director of Business Development at Mitacs, Kristin Spong helps establish and sustain relationships by liaising between colleges, universities, industry and community organizations. Kristin is based in Kingston, ON and works closely with organizations and researchers within the Eastern, ON region to develop successful Mitacs research grants. By building mutually beneficial partnerships, Mitacs drives both industrial and social innovation within Canada.
