My overarching research goal is to figure out galaxy structure and evolution. Some of the research questions I explore are how much dark matter a galaxy has, where that dark matter is located, and how galaxies change due to environment as opposed to internal processes. I explore those questions using radio observations of the gas inside galaxies. With radio we can see where the gas is and, with a lot of work, figure out how that gas is moving. With that information, we can then explore dark matter, evolution, and sorts of other exciting questions.
In addition to this work, I also work on galaxy simulations to understand the physics driving these processes. And by comparing simulations to observations, we can figure out the limits of the simulations and as well as predictions for new observations.
I am also interested in visualization and generating attractive images of galaxies where we show both the gas and stars.
