Stitching Science Artist Talk
Public Events
Date: September 13, 2025
Time: 6:00pm - 8:00pm

We’ve been fortunate to present the original artwork of Guelph-based textile artist and author, Lauren Wright Vartanian at the McDonald Institute Visitor’s Center this summer, and are proud to sponsor an artist talk event at the County Arts Lab in Picton on September 13th. Space is limited, so please register.
Lauren’s new book, Stitching Science: Exploring Science from A-Z is a beautifully crafted work of art three years in the making. Published by Firefly Books in October 2024, Stitching Science is an alphabet book for grown-ups! Readers of all ages will marvel at the beauty, intricacy, and originality of the images, all created by hand from thread, fabrics, fibres, and other textile embellishments.
The complete alphabet of letter illustrations, along with the cover art, and dedication, make for an impressive 48×84″ grid of 28 artworks which will be on display at the event. Copies of the book will also be available for purchase.

The artwork will continue to be on display at the McDonald Institute Visitor’s Centre until September 12th.
The Visitor’s Centre is open 9:30 am – 4:30 pm, Monday – Friday and located in Stirling Hall Rm 302 | Queen’s University, 64 Bader Lane Kingston, ON. K7L 3N6
If you’re facing Stirling Hall on Bader Ave, enter in the right (West) entrance and the Visitor’s Centre is just up the steps to your right.
Free admission for all ages. School groups welcome, please visit the Visitor’s Centre website for details.
