On the (low) threshold to new physics?

David G. Cerdeño – Institute for Particle Physics Phenomenology

A new generation of direct detection experiments will soon be operational with i proved setups, featuring increased target size and lower experimental thresholds (e.g. SuperCDMS in the high-voltage operation mode). In this seminar I will review the different possibilities that this offers when looking for new physics. I will comment on dark matter models, generic effective field theory descriptions and the relevance of complementary targets in discriminating dark matter parameters. Emphasis will be put on low-threshold experiments, with emphasis on SuperCDMS, arguing that they will excel at exploring light dark matter candidates and also be particularly sensitive to new-physics in the neutrino sector through the observation of coherent neutrino scattering.
