Our Personnel in Theory

Highly Qualified Personnel (HQP) are early-career researchers and staff at every level and institution across the Canadian Astroparticle Physics Community. This includes undergraduate researchers, graduate students, postdoctoral fellows, engineers, technicians, and research support staff.

Theory encompasses a wide field of research within astroparticle physics, and includes work in astronomy, chemistry, engineering, geology, mining, and physics.

HQP and faculty that are in theory often work on models that describe a physical phenomena, whether that is through analytical mathematics, calculations, or numerical supercomputer simulations. Taking the results and outcomes of these calculations and applying them to what we detect and observe is what allows for preparation and analysis in experimental research fields.

Theory research groups specialize in building on existing models or developing new physical theories and models to describe an expected interaction or observed phenomenon. They often take information from experimental research groups in the same field to vet their work.

In Canadian Astroparticle Physics, our theory research groups and experimental research groups collaborate closely to unravel the mysteries of the universe. Our community is a rare demonstration of how close collaboration between theorists and experimentalists results in groundbreaking science.

Those interested in theory opportunities can expect to work on physical science concepts, and potentially computing.
