Prof. Viel is an experimental particle physicist whose research includes software development and evaluation of silicon photomultipliers (SiPMs) for rare event searches. He works on developing software for detector simulation, event reconstruction, and data analysis for nEXO, DEAP-3600, and next-generation liquid argon dark matter searches in addition to contributing to the design, planning, construction, and operation of these experiments. Prof. Viel is one of the leads for the Astroparticle Physics Experiments Group at Carleton University and is a member of the Arthur B. McDonald Canadian Astroparticle Physics Research Institute (McDonald Institute).
