The SuperCDMS is an experiment employing cryogenic semiconductor detectors to search for evidence of low-mass dark matter particles interacting with regular matter.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Support the final steps of the construction of SuperCDMS at SNOLAB. Specific responsibilities will be assigned based on needs, skills and interests.
  • Play a key role in the experiment commissioning (starting mid 2025) with a focus on cryogenic and/or detector operations.
  • Contribute to the operation of SuperCDMS.
  • Play a leading role in the analysis of data by developing or improving analysis methods. This applies to data already existing as well as data to be acquired by SuperCDMS once operational.

SUPERVISION EXERCISED:

This position has no direct supervisory responsibility, but you may be asked to contribute to instructing and directing graduate and undergraduate students.

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS: 

The incumbent needs a solid understanding of particle physics and particle detectors. Experience in data analysis and hands-on experimental work is expected. Background in cryogenics is an asset though not a requirement. The incumbent is expected to contribute to the construction of the experiment underground at SNOLAB which in turn requires that the candidate will be able to access the laboratory (crowded elevator ride 2000 m down to the laboratory level followed by a roughly 1.5 km walk through a hot and dusty mine).

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND YEARS OF EXPERIENCE:

The incumbent is required to have a PhD degree (received within 5 years) in experimental astroparticle physics or related field.

Salary Information: $55,000 – 70,000
