Our Highly Qualified Personnel at PICO
Highly Qualified Personnel (HQP) are early-career researchers and staff at every level and institution across the Canadian Astroparticle Physics Community. This includes undergraduate researchers, graduate students, postdoctoral fellows, engineers, technicians, and research support staff.
The PICO collaboration uses bubble chamber technology to detect dark matter particles.

The bubble chamber used in the PICO experiments holds superheated liquid that boils if enough energy is deposited in it, creating bubbles when certain particles interact inside. The sound the bubbles make as they are formed gives scientists clues about the type of particle that created them.
The PICO experiments are located at SNOLAB in the Creighton Mine in Sudbury, Ontario. Opportunities with PICO may be on location at SNOLAB, at the research lab at Queen’s University, or both.
Those interested in working with PICO can expect to build skills in hardware development, calibration, and data analysis.
